With its location close to the A66 and the M6 Crossbar View Farm is an ideal place to stay for those wishing to explore the Lake District, The Yorkshire Dales and the North Pennines whilst being able to return to a secluded village away from the hustle and bustle of larger built up areas.
The village of Soulby, with its three acre green, is near the River Eden and Smardale Beck. The commons were enclosed in 1810. A three arched bridge was built in 1819. Cattle and sheep fairs were once held in the village. The chapel, St Luke's, is a single chamber chapel built by Sir Philip Musgrave in 1662. The round-headed south doorway has late medieval moulding.
